Summer Workshops

We are offering several workshops this summer. Some workshops are held in the morning (9:00 - 12:00) and some in the afternoon (12:00 - 3:00). Please sign up for any or all that you would like to attend.

JULY 6 (PM) - Mandarin: Our classic summer workshop is back. If you are planning on attending either this or the later Mandarin workshop, please email Andy or Brian with ideas for what you would like covered. These are very attendee driven and we try to cover topics pertinent to you.

JULY 13 (AM) - Advanced SMART Boards: Come join Liesl Toates from Model Schools and Distance Learning to learn beyond the basics of SMART Boards.

JULY 20 (PM) - New Fish4Info: Hands-on with the new Fish site.

JULY 27 (AM) - Digital Media Festival: If you are new, old-hat or just curious, come learn about the Digital Media Festival. We will share project ideas, tools and discuss the future of the festival. Several librarians who are very involved in creating award winning submissions will be joining us to share their experiences and best practices as well.

AUGUST 10 (AM) - Game Design as a Pedagogical Tool: The next step in our work utilizing games as resources is exploring game design as a tool for students to display a complex understanding and application of curricular concepts and skills. We will explore how this works, looking at a project based example implemented at Avon High School, and discussing the benefits and the pitfalls.

AUGUST 17 (PM) - Opposing Viewpoints in Context: We will spend time exploring the first shared region wide purchased resource with hands-on exploration and discussion.

AUGUST 24 (PM) - EBSCO Ebook service: The SLS will be looking to adopt EBSCO's upcoming Ebook service as a platform for content. Come learn more and explore what we think is a wonderful tool with great potential.

AUGUST 31 (AM) - Mandarin: The second Mandarin workshop of the summer. Come if you couldn't make the first, or come to both. Please email Andy or Brian any questions or topics you would like covered.
